Story

A game released by SGN, now called Jam City. The inspiration was from French pop music, with appropriate instrumentation, infused with a trippy, almost psychedelic element. It became one of the more popular games on Facebook, as well as Android and iOS.

Story

The theme from an innovative match 3 game, designed by Clayton Kauzlaric and Ron Gilbert. In my initial excitement, I submitted a lush, orchestral, "Pirates of the Caribbean" style demo. Clayton said, "Well, that's good, but what we're looking for is something more like a threadbare traveling pit orchestra full of miscreants and ne'er-do-wells.

One of the engine limitations of this game was not being able to crossfade between gameplay music cues or create seamless transitions. But we did want as much variety as possible, so music cues were composed according to the intensity of the gameplay and loaded into the game accordingly. Instead of the music adhering to strict pop music tempos, the ends and beginnings of each cue slow down and speed up, making the space between each piece more musical and composerly.

Story

Written for the ultra-popular Facebook game "FarmVille" created by Zynga. While working on the Disney version of "Princess and the Frog" I got a call from Zynga Executive Producer David Gray, who wanted a 30-second theme and a handful of sound effects with a one-day turnaround. David and I agreed on an approach that would stylistically pre-date rock or modern pop music, that shouldn't have drums (too distracting) and would have a country-ish feel without being overtly hillbilly. Chet Atkins was an inspiration, for sure.

Here is a one minute version of that theme.

Story

A medley of music composed for the Disney/Griptonite game based on the major motion picture. The contract called for original content, and also required instrumental arrangements of vocal music composed by Randy Newman. It didn't hurt to have some of the finest jazz musicians in the Bay Area to assist me with these recordings, as the style was New Orleans jazz and R&B, and their interpretive feel proved invaluable.

A suite of music from the game conceived, created and developed for Microsoft by Beep Games. I composed and recorded a little over three hours of music for this game, released on the original Microsoft XBox, featuring some very talented Bay Area musicians.

A new version of "Voodoo Vince" is slated to be released in early 2017 in a new HD format and will be available on Xbox One and Windows.

Lyrics

This cold world
Before the curl
One thawed refrain
Sears with the rain

Smeared soul of earth
Struck with the grand ingrate slap
Once vast well of life
Now rots beneath our step

Oh, oh my love my life oh please be mine again

Composed and arranged by Steve Kirk

Lyrics

The world is melodrome

Fool for thought

Whatever spell she had

Fell to not a word

To be heard

Evidence was a style withheld

Once, in a way of legaldom foretold

Born of shadows ‘cross the field

Take one feathered look-

What was the sight of her song in the marrow?

Another gaze, sapped of strength and

All too undone- in display, cast away

Each card to the ground and told all,

All was gone

The world is melodrome

Oh, food once thought

Whatever sell she had

Fell to not a word

To be heard
